Georgian cap-airfield
The tradition of wearing caps is in different nations. The design of these hats differs depending on climatic and other living conditions, as well as on the peculiarities of the national mentality.
Georgian cap-airfield became popular in the first half of the last century. Initially, local people were offered Sicilian flat caps - Coppola. But since the Georgians are very fond of exaggerating everything, they soon became of enormous size, because of which they were called “airfields”.
Story
The first workshop for tailoring Georgian caps was opened by Italian-born tenor Salvatore Kokuzza in the late 19th century. To do this business was forced by his accident. As a result of the fire, the local opera house was almost completely destroyed, and the whole troupe was left without means of subsistence.
Opening a cap sewing workshop, an enterprising Italian did not expect his headgear to please the local population. He offered the first products to the Germans who lived in Tiflis. But soon the Coppola caps became so popular that Kokuzza opened a second workshop in Kutaisi.
For several decades, Coppola fully settled down in Georgia, and then transformed into a Georgian cap-airfield. This headgear is characterized by:
- Large diameter.
- Perfectly flat bottom.
- Highly raised backdrop.
- Massive visor.
Initially, caps were sewn from thick wool fabric, which was imported from Cuba. But later they began to use astrakhan. These hats were very often worn by the most respected men of the family, since the cap-airfield from astrakhan fur was very expensive. Soon this tradition was adopted by the Georgians by the Armenians.
After the Second World War, a large number of airfield cap workshops worked in Georgia. Every self-respecting Georgian should have a large cap. And the more - the better.
The cap-airfield acquired the greatest popularity on the expanses of the former USSR after the release of the film “Mimino”. The main character, performed by Vakhtang Kikabidze, wore just such a headdress.
Status caps airfield in the modern world
Today, large-sized flat caps can often be seen on young men and girls, but the traditional Georgian cap with an even, like the runway of the airfield, is no longer riding. In Georgia, there are only a few small workshops where you can order the manufacture of such a headdress. Their clients are people who wore such aerodrome caps in their youth, and they remain true to them even now.
In the modern world, large-sized Georgian caps are perceived as a historical costume. To go out in such a cap to the street can either a very brave girl, or a participant in a thematic party, which is devoted to the fashion of the end of the last century.
But the ancestor of the Georgian cap is still popular all over the world. Coppola are all, regardless of status and financial condition. This is a very practical and stylish headdress.
Stylish images
Since its introduction, the Coppola, and later the Georgian cap-airfield, have been exclusively men's headdresses. Today, these caps are literally everything. In a large flat cap you can see men, women, boys and girls.
- The boys are very restless, like to run, jump and hooligan. A hooligan cap stitched from the same principle as the Coppola, but a bit more voluminous, will emphasize your restless nature.
- Men's flat caps made of soft wool will be the perfect complement to a short coat or jacket, made of the same material. This set is suitable for trips out of town, exploring the city and romantic dates.
- Women can also use a large cap as a headdress. Boyfriend jeans, T-shirt and a large flat cap of gray soft wool - this is the image of a hooligan girl who rebels against the ordinary!
- If you prefer a more austere style, then choose a flat monochrome cap, the visor of which is decorated with silk cord and lace.
- The flat cap perfectly combines with a trouser suit of loose fit, made of half-woolen fabric. Put it on over a vest and be sure to tie a men's tie. Such an image will not go unnoticed.
