The first Alaska jackets appeared in the 50s of the last century and became a real salvation for American military pilots. The fact is that in those days they were forced to work in extreme weather conditions, in latitudes, where the air temperature drops to a critically low point. Designers who were tasked to sew radically warm clothing for the military, drew attention to the clothes of the Eskimos from Alaska.

To adapt to the activity in the northern latitudes, they were forced to wear jackets that are unique in their properties. They did not constrain the movements due to the anatomical cut, but at the same time perfectly warmed in the cold. In order to give the clothes the warming properties of the Eskimos, the main raw materials for tailoring, deer skins, and fish oil were soaked. The cold wind and temperatures up to -70 ° C were not terrible, because the jackets were complemented by a high collar covering the face and a deep hood.

Modern designers have borrowed technology tailoring from the Eskimos, but small items still improved. Heavy leather was replaced with the latest thermal insulation materials, and heavy-duty zippers were used as fasteners. Alaskan jackets are good because they have no extra elements: The sewn pockets are present on the chest and in the lower part of the jacket, and all valves are fully warmed.
